I agree with Mike Royko`s column regarding the efforts of Helen Shiller, Slim Coleman, et al., to discourage what is called ”gentrification” in Uptown.
As an Uptown resident, I find it astounding that so-called ”community activists” can rail against slumlords who allow their buildings to deteriorate to the detriment of poor, powerless tenants out of one side of their mouths, while proposing hare-brained ordinances designed to preserve these hazardous slums with the other side.
Does Ms. Shiller really belive that low-cost housing will disappear in Uptown because a few buildings and litter-strewn lots are cleared and developed?
