Regarding The Chicago Tribune`s editorial on the MacBride Principles, may I be allowed to clarify one or two points?
First, the mischievous and ill-conceived proposal, as The Tribune called it: The MacBride Principles want only to assure fair and equal hiring practices in Northern Ireland. Catholics in the North face unemployment rates as high as 85 percent; wouldn`t this situation seem to demand a remedy?
There`s also the added benefit that by relieving some of the oppression running rampant in the Catholic ghettos, there would most likely be a proportionate decrease in violence.
