Marshall Field & Co. has stopped selling appliances and electronics at its 16 stores after agreeing to end a leasing agreement with Platt Music Corp. A Fields spokesman said that the two companies agreed to end their five-year-old leasing agreement. He referred questions to Platt.
William Sliney, chief financial officer for Torrance, Calif.-based Platt, said Tuesday the company had switched its strategy from sales in leased facilities to offering extended-service warranties for appliances.
The Fields spokesman said that some 70 employees were affected.
