An election very soon is an imperative for Chicago. Costs of a special election are not to be considered. The state law has no sense to it here; an exemption must be gained.
We cannot go until 1989 without an elected mayor. The selection by the city council will not reflect the will of the people. The move for a primary and general election should be started as soon as possible.
Politically, this proposal will have little popularity, but democratically, there is no other way to resolve this sad emergency.
