Due to the variation in the world`s rotation, world time- keepers added an extra second to the countdown for 1988`s arrival.
The extra second, we were told, belonged to neither 1987 or 1988 and was, as one commentator put it, ”a glimpse of infinity.”
We wondered what to do with the extra time. One idea was to try for an extra New Year`s cocktail. Another was to attempt a very short existential panic. Lastly, we wondered how to photograph or record the ”glimpse of infinity” so as to more fully realize this rare timelessness.
In the end we simply hoped that next time they would arrange an extra week so we might attempt something worthwhile.
