It was 10 below zero in downtown Chicago. Despite the chill, hundreds of hatless men were hurrying to work down the frozen streets. Most were young, but many were middle-aged, or even older, their thinning hair whipped wildly by the wind and their ears turning pale with cold.

Comfort, protection, common sense-all must yield to the vanity of bareheadedness.
