Freedom Federal Savings Bank posted a $568,000 fourth-quarter loss because of higher expenses and lower net interest income.
The Oak Brook-based thrift reported a loss of $318,000 in the year-earlier fourth quarter.
For the year, Freedom`s profits declined 63 percent, to $1.8 million from $4.9 million. Earnings for 1987 included an extraordinary credit of $686,000, compared with $2.3 million a year before.
Freedom said net interest income in the fourth quarter and the year was hurt by below-market yields on some of its loans.
