For too long The Chicago Tribune has ignored the problem of ”white flight” from Chicago and its public school system, a product of a failed policy of integration through various desegregation programs.
Now that white enrollment is at an all-time low of 12.9 percent, the Jan. 30 Tribune editorial admonishes the school board to heed ”The urgent warning in school figures.”
But the editorial failed to suggest the school board`s ”urgent” need to re-order its priorities by putting education before integration.
