When Washington Redskins` owner Jack Kent Cooke was accepting the Vince Lombardi Trophy after winning Super Bowl XXII, we wondered how he and the American public can accept sports teams that are named after a race of people. There appears to be no limit to the amount of abuse we can heap upon Native Americans. Is calling a native American a ”redskin” any different from calling a black American a ”nigger”? What image would our nation`s capital portray if its football team were named the Washington Niggers?
