Charles posted eight birdies and no bogeys on the par-72, 6,530-yard Champion course at PGA National. Arnold Palmer holds the course and tournament record of 9-under 63, set in 1984. . . . Jodie Mudd twice holed out from off the green on his way to a 6-under 66 that gave him a share of the first-round Hawaiian Open lead with Richard Zokal in Honolulu. . . .
