I would have hoped for more precise solutions from Don Haider to Chicago`s continuing loss of manufacturing jobs in his article on Feb. 16. Instead, he calls for the creation of yet another government agency staffed by briefcase-carrying bureaucrats.

We need lower property taxes for modernized factories and a better-educated work force who can read directions for operating machinery. If only local government would implement recommendations from numerous public-and corporate-sponsored commissions now collecting dust, Chicago could turn around the decline Mr. Haider decries. He reminds me of the fellow who is a professional success, intellectually astute, dapper and sharp, but forgot to put on his socks.
