Chicago`s roster of hotels will gain a 23-story addition June 1 when Hotel 21 East opens at 21 E. Bellevue Pl.
In addition to guest rooms, the 247-room hotel will include 35 ”21 suites” and six penthouse lofts with garden terraces. In-room amenities will include compact disc players, VCRs, stereo TV, two-line speaker phones and, in the bathrooms, deep-soaking tubs.
In addition to an express checkout system, the hotel will offer a one-time check-in policy, allowing guests to register simply by giving their name after their initial stay. The hotel will have meeting facilities for groups of up to 200. Six meeting rooms and a board room, the latter containing audio-visual equipment, will be served by the hotel`s catering staff.
”We`re a fresh alternative to the conventional hotel for business and pleasure travelers who appreciate quality and the advantages of excellent service,” said Ken Withrow, general manager. ”Our goal is to be an extension of the quality of life our guests enjoy.”
Designed by the architectural firm of Mackinlay, Winnacker, McNeil & Associates, Hotel 21 East is constructed of French-Canadian granite in a contemporary style. A glass elevator gives passengers a clear view of the building`s four-story atrium lobby.
The hostelry`s second-floor Cafe 21 restaurant, with American bistro cuisine, will overlook Rush Street and Bellevue Place. An adjacent lounge area, featuring a 25-foot, copper-topped bar, will overlook the atrium lobby and Rush Street. Tea service will be available in the lobby.
Hotel 21 East is managed by the Chicago-based Coastal Hotel Group Inc., manager of 19 hotels throughout the United States.
