Monsanto Co. said it plans to reduce air emissions from its worldwide hazardous chemicals operations by 90 percent over the next five years. Richard J. Mahoney, chairman and chief executive officer, said the company is making the move even though its current emission levels are well within safety guidelines. ”The public expects no less than a maximum effort to reduce emissions, nor should we,” he said. St. Louis-based Monsanto has nearly 50 plants, with 30 of them in the United States.
