As an ancient radical, I find it hard to understand what those rightists
(Roosevelt would call them economic royalists) in New Orleans fear so much in liberals. I used to resent being called liberal, as it signified being wimpy when facing issues of importance to all the people, while we radicals fought tooth and nail against injustices. Now I must consider it an honor to be called one by such as Reagan or Bush.
My dictionary defines liberal as ”tolerant of views differing from one`s own; broad minded; favoring reform or progress; tolerant of democratic forms of government as distinguished from monarchies and aristocracies.” OK, I`ll be a liberal.
How happy I am that presidential terms are limited to two terms! Eight years of the one Clark Clifford called an amiable dunce is more than enough.
