Owners of the SS Clipper docked at Navy Pier should be paid as much as $100,000 in damages because the city has interfered with their business, an attorney for the ship`s owners said Wednesday.
In closing arguments before Cook County Circuit Judge Roger Kiley Jr., attorney Robert Graham said his clients also should receive $216,000 in credits, including $100,000 for the cost of hauling waste from the pier before the owners installed sewer lines.
The city`s attorney, Hubert Thompson, argued that the Clipper was just like any other business tenant and should not be allowed a permanent injunction that would bar the city from evicting the ship. Kiley said he hoped to issue a ruling in the case next week.
