Macmillan Inc. withdrew its support from a $2.49 billion offer from an investor group led by Kohlberg, Kravis, Roberts & Co. and indicated it might hold out for more than the $2.55 billion offered by British publisher Robert Maxwell. Macmillan said Kohlberg Kravis was considering amending its offer. Macmillan didn`t comment on Maxwell`s bid, but said it would consider any amended offer from Maxwell or Kohlberg Kravis.
