Chicago businessman Noah Robinson was ordered held without bond Thursday by a judge in Greenville, S.C., on a murder charge that alleges he paid a Chicago street gang to kill Leroy ”Hambone” Barber, one of his former employees.
Judge James Moore of the 8th Circuit Court turned aside a request to set a bond for Robinson.
Preston Reid, Robinson`s attorney, argued Robinson should get bond because he was ”a citizen of some standing” and a leading black businessman, said Matthew R. Hawley Jr., a deputy prosecutor.
Robinson, the half-brother of Rev. Jesse Jackson, was arrested Tuesday for the Jan. 2, 1986, murder of Barber in a small commercial complex that Robinson owns in Greenville.
Robinson, the operator of several fast-food restaurants and the president of a construction company that has received millions of dollars in contracts from Chicago area governments, has said he is innocent of the charges and had no role whatsoever in the murder.
