With the Chicago mayoral race in full swing, one has a feeling of futility concerning voting patterns. Will a candidate get ”my vote” because the pigmentation of his skin matches mine or because he belongs to my particular ethnic club?
The most qualified person should receive the most votes irrespective of ethnic affiliation or skin pigmentation. To do less will mean that we have learned little from those who tried to build racial understanding over the past 50 years. To do less will mean that we should forget about people being persons-the thing that counts is that you are ”color-coded.”
