The Downers Grove District 58 School Board has agreed to fund the district`s summer school program ”if our state reimbursement does not come forth,” said John Lucy, assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction.

Lucy said he has been told by State Board of Education officials that the district will likely receive about $27,000, the amount received last year. But, he said, state funding isn`t confirmed ”essentially, until after . . . (the summer school session is) over.” The board on Monday approved funding the program if state funds don`t arrive.

Lucy said the district plans to add courses for average students to a curriculum aimed at gifted and remedial students during the four-week session, which will probably run from mid-June to mid-July.
