Daniel Ortega`s strongman government is much more devastating than any hurricane could possibly be.
Unfortunately, Herbert Chilstrom could not see this when he admonished our President for not giving aid to Ortega. A hurricane comes and goes while a ruthless dictator destroys an economy, imprisons the people and breaks the spirit of its citizens.
Even Bishop Chilstrom admitted that the Nicaraguan government had stripped the people of their ”bare essentials: food, clothing, housing, medical care.”
Is he upset with Ortega for that? Hardly; not an untoward word.
Is holding political prisoners humanitarian? Was invading Honduras on the eve of a cease-fire humanitarian?
Bishop Chilstrom seems only concerned about heaven-sent disasters.
