A 37-year-old Chicago man was killed Thursday afternoon when he was crushed by a scrap baling machine at Industrial Scrap Corp., 152d Street and Railroad Avenue, in East Chicago, according to the Lake County (Ind.)
coroner`s office.
The victim, Javier Belazquez, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident at 3:47 p.m., said Investigator J.W. Williams, of the Lake County Coroner`s Office
Williams said that ”they had made the last bale for the day,” and Belazquez went to get some rags to clean the machine. The rags were in a small room underneath the machine, Williams said. The victim went down a set of stairs and somehow became trapped between a moving roller on the baling machine and the stairs and was killed, Williams said.
