There have been many plans advanced to lower the budget deficit, such as no cost-of-living adjustments, or raising cigarette taxes, liquor taxes, oil taxes, etc.
The most logical and yet least heard of is a status enhancer. This would be a 5 percent fee on all luxury items, of which the list is endless: mink covers for car hood ornaments, $25,000 dog houses, luxury cars, yachts, jewelry and on and on.
The best part of this plan is that it is voluntary; only those wishing for this status symbol would be affected. The income to the Treasury would be enormous.
