Mass for Edwin J. Ziebell, 63, former chief of the Forest Park Police Department, will be said at 10 a.m. Tuesday in St. Luke`s Catholic Church, Lake Street and Lathrup Avenue, River Forest. A lifelong Forest Park resident, he died Saturday in Loyola University Medical Center, Maywood.

Mr. Ziebell, a 27-year-veteran of the department, served as chief from 1969 until his retirement in 1975. He then worked as a security consultant until his death.

He joined the Forest Park department in 1947, a year after his father, Lt. Herman Ziebell, also a Forest Park police officer, was shot and killed in the line of duty.

Mr. Ziebell served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He was a graduate of Proviso Township High School and also attended the University of Illinois.

He was a life member of the Illinois Police Association and the International Association of Chiefs of Police.

Mr. Ziebell is survived by his wife, Mary; two sons, Herman and Gerald;

and a daughter, Mary Schuster.
