If you`re in the market for vintage or one-of-a-kind designer clothes, a 1920s pool table or stove, or just your basic ”loft-living cool junque,” don`t miss this hip auction.
The ”bare to the walls” sale at the Salon of Modalisque, 616 W. Adams St., will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. Sunday.
”We`re moving on to bigger and better things and just want to lighten our load for the move,” says store owner Marguerite Horberg.
At the auction, Horberg plans to announce the concept and location for her new store, which she hopes to open in the fall.
”I`m looking for a ground-floor store,” she says. ”Something that will be accessible for wheelchairs. I also am really interested in getting a public place of amusement license, and want to be in a higher-traffic neighborhood.”
For nine years Horberg has been operating her 8,000-square-foot, third-floor loft store/performance space in the West Loop. Despite its rather unlikely location, the loft has served as a sort of artistic center and
”mecca for the inspired, the hip and the daring.”
The auction, which will be conducted by Gallery St. James of Oak Park, will also feature props, jewelry, accessories, store fixtures and power tools.
