A lot of people don`t know the difference between an ophthalmologist, an optometrist and an optician, and that`s why producer Roseann Tronvig predicts that ”Health Point,” a new program produced by the Du Page County Medical Society, will draw a healthy audience.
”Health Point,” airing at 10 a.m. and 8 p.m. Mondays on Wheaton`s Centel-Ch. 37, provides ”general information so people can recognize when there is a problem, when they should see a physician, how to communicate with a physician,” said Tronvig, who doubles as the show`s director.
The program`s debut, broadcast Feb. 13, titled, ”How to Communicate with Your Physician on the First Visit,” will be repeated Monday .
Tronvig, public relations director for the medical society, said the show was conceived in response to public demand for medical information. ”We have people calling us for referrals. Most people don`t know how to talk to the doctors and what to ask. Another thing they don`t know is what specialities treat what medical problems.”
Taped in Centel`s Wheaton studio, the program`s talk-show set is simple, reflecting the program`s shoestring budget, a typical fact of life for public- access productions.
Tronvig said the $800 grant Centel gave her to get the show off the ground paid for set furniture and some graphics. ”The society paid for other incidentals,” she said. The crew performs their duties gratis. ”I select the crew from among the people who have taken the training at WCTV (Wheaton`s public access channel). It`s all totally volunteer.”
Each half-hour show features different guests and interviewers.
