The Board of North Palos Elementary School District 117 is threatening to close Quin Elementary School in Palos Hills unless voters approve a 33 percent tax increase on April 4.
In voting to put Quin on the chopping block, board members noted the district is facing a $1.8 million deficit and district enrollment is expected to decline to 2,000 from the current 2,500 by 1994. The tax proposal, if approved, would increase real estate taxes to $2.27 from $1.52 for every $100 of assessed valuation.
