I fail to appreciate the distinction made by the veterans` groups concerning their objections to the recent flag exhibit at the Art Institute. They indicated they have no objection to a painting of the flag being placed on the floor, but they have serious objections to a ”real” flag so placed.
If the flag is a symbol of our nation and what it stands for, what is the difference if the design and colors of the flag are painted on canvas or dyed on cloth? Isn`t the distinction simply form over substance?
