Amy Gonka pitched and batted Regina Dominican to an 8-5 season-opening softball victory over visiting Trinity Tuesday in Wilmette.
A senior right-hander, Gonka hurled a two-hitter and struck out eight. At the plate, she drove in five runs with three hits-a solo home run, a three-run triple and an RBI triple.
Gonka walked 10 batters, but kept Trinity at bay with timely strikeouts.
GIRLS SOCCER
Oak Park 4, Maine East 0-Katie O`Keefe scored two goals, Maeve Kiley and Maria Ross each added a goal and sophomore goaltender Alba King recorded the shutout as the Huskies made first-year coach Doug Hunt`s debut a success.
Glenbard West 7, West Chicago 3-Katie Archer and Jenny Tajak each scored two goals to power Glenbard West.
GYMNASTICS
Addison Trail 147.0, Downers South 116.1-Woody Chhay captured the rings and parallel bars and was No. 1 in the all-around and Dan Petritis won the floor exercise (9.7) and vaulting (9.5) as Addison Trail swept all six events en route to its fifth straight dual-meet victory.
