As part of a federal plan to lower long-distance charges and maintain reasonable prices for local telephone service, the monthly supplemental line charges for Illinois Bell residential and single-line business customers will increase by 30 cents.
The monthly charge, which will rise to $3.50 from $3.20, is part of a 1984 Federal Communications Commission plan to change the practice of subsidizing local service with long distance charges.
