The recent action by the House of Representatives to have a uniform poll- closing time across the U.S. is welcome news. The Senate should quickly adopt the measure.

The Congress can go two steps further to increase voter turnout. First, voting should be conducted on Saturdays. Surely more registered voters will have free time on this day. Second, voter registration needs to be made easier. Some states have adopted same-day registration.
