”What can we do that hasn`t been done?” asked Holly Hunt, owner of a Merchandise Mart showroom who is opening her Winnetka estate to 500 guests on June 3 for a gala AIDS fundraiser. Hunt was one of a pride of interior designers who kicked that question around as they tasted the planned menu for BRAZIL-in capital letters-what promises to be a most exotic event.
The black-tie event, to be catered by Jim Guth of Chicago Caterers, will be the first time members of design disciplines here that comprise the Design Industries Foundation for AIDS` (DIFFA) come together to raise money to fight this major health crisis.
A South American-themed evening has been planned, and no enticement was left unturned by the committee members. Hunt`s concern was to make it unique. Bruce Gregga was worried about the bottom line. Dan DeBay was for scrapping everything already planned and ”doing one big abondanza,” getting his countries mixed. Lois Mills gave it a good review.
Committee members spent an afternoon discussing every detail, from the best color for the china, black or white, to the merits of the strawberry daiquiris. A tough job, but somebody`s got to do it.
