Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

When it was announced that a group of broadcasters and journalists had voted Earvin ”Magic” Johnson the NBA`s Most Valuable Player for 1989, my jaw dropped straight to the pavement.

Granted: ”Magic” is a great basketball player. Granted: He is the most valuable player on the Lakers. Granted: With a team as deep in talent as the Lakers, that`s really saying something.

But ”Magic” is no Michael. Nor is anyone else, for that matter. There simply isn`t a more valuable player to his team than Michael Jordan is to the Bulls. (Not to mention to the league.)
