I applaud President Bush`s economic sanctions against China and also his offer of protection for astrophysicist Fang Lizhi from the Chinese
persecution. However, the actions have enraged China.
China has survived over 40 years without ever opening its doors to capitalism, and to continue to threaten it with harsher punitive measures will only push China to close out the West completely once again.
Let us proceed with caution in our strong support for the student ideals and maintain our Sino-American relationshps.
