Jackson Browne
World In Motion (Elektra) (STAR)(STAR)(STAR) 1/2
Jackson Browne again sharpens his crusader`s sword for a broad swipe at the heart of the American conscience. Certainly a world apart from his early 1980s soft-core hits ”Somebody`s Baby” and ”Lawyers In Love,” Browne`s latest is a scathingly political tome, backed by music that doesn`t wilt under the sometimes acerbic lyrics. The title track sets the tone with its story of a world indifferent to the homeless, the poor, pollution and crime. He re-embraces the folk-rock of earlier albums without falling into cliche or boredom, keeping the music a level above most of last year`s new-folk sensations. From the burning ”How Long” to the reggae ”The Word Justice”
and ”Enough of the Night”-one among a sprinkling of romantic takes on the LP-there`s nary a flaw and somthing for everyone.
