Dick Duchossois, whose lavish new Arlington International Racecourse will begin its 95-day meeting Wednesday, will be trying to steal the show Tuesday when Balmoral Park ends its 47-day meeting.
Duchossois has an excellent shot at winning the $50,000-added Hardenbrook Memorial Handicap with Do It Zen, a 4-year-old filly he owns and bred. Do It Zen is the Daily Racing Form consensus choice in the 1 1/16-mile race for Illinois-bred fillies and mares.
In addition to the Hardenbrook, the closing card at Balmoral will feature another $50,000 stakes race, the Balmoral Derby, and a third run at the 44-year-old quarter-mile world record.
The 1 1/8-mile Balmoral Derby will star Decorated One and Castelite. Decorated One compiled a three-race winning streak in Kentucky before running third in the Divot Digger Handicap at Hawthorne, while Castelite is invading after capturing three straight at River Downs.
In the 2-furlong fourth race, Silver Singh and Funny Side Up will head a brigade of 12 horses taking a shot at the world record of :20 4/5 set by Big Racket at Mexico City`s Hipodromo de las Americas in 1945. This will be the third such race at the meeting, and thus far the closest the Balmoral horses have come was when Funny Side Up won in :21 2/5.
