I applaud William Raspberry`s recent column on the poor educational opportunities for the 50 percent of our children who do not go to college.
As this country is no longer a manufacturing nation, these students have little chance of obtaining good jobs after graduating from high school.
Mr. Raspberry suggests that industry work with the schools to teach these young people trades which would enable them to secure good jobs.
I believe a program of this kind also would encourage students to stay in school and complete their education.
