Gov. James Thompson`s wife may say his decision not to seek office again is ”courageous”-to many it is expediency at its pathetic worst.
Strange, isn`t it: Within a week of signing into law a bill doubling his pension benefits to more than $80,000 yearly for the rest of his life, he chooses to leave office.
It is proclaimed he will earn up to, or more than, $500,000 yearly to join a private law firm (where, no doubt, his ”good-old-boy” contacts will be used with little regard for anything but personal enrichment). So, like the living ex-presidents, Thompson gets rich and the taxpayers get poorer paying his pension benefits year after year after year.
