Robert Dale, in his recent letter, contends that the media are ”out to get Gus Savage.” His cry of ”poor Gus” rings as hollow as the statements bellowed to reporters by the man himself. Rep. Gus Savage rests on his blackness as a quick excuse for his outrageous behavior.
Race had little to do with his worst-in-the-House absentee record. Race had equally little to do with his attack on a Peace Corps volunteer in Zaire. This latest affair shows the congressman`s true ”color” and it has nothing to do with race. He is a self-centered, arrogant buffoon who couldn`t represent himself out of a shoe box who tries to make us believe that he is on every white politician`s so-called hit list and therefore cannot be held to the same standards.
So if anyone is ”out to get Gus,” I applaud him. Every ethical person in this nation should be out to get him, along with every other politician of his genre.
