A controversial group home for abused and neglected teenage boys that is proposed for a site near Park Forest has failed to win approval from Will County`s Planning and Zoning Commission.
The commission voted 5-1 Tuesday against issuing a special-use permit for the Aunt Martha`s Youth Services Center in Crete Township.
Residents of the area have opposed plans to convert a private home on a six-acre wooded site on Wolpers Road into a home for 10 males, aged 14 to 20.
The commission`s recommendation now goes to the Will County Board, which has the final say in the matter.
If the board votes against the home, officials of Aunt Martha`s have said they will consider going to court. They say the youths present no threat to the community and, ”providing they are good neighbors,” have a right to live there.
