Your complimentary commentary on ”Chicago`s new school chief” neglected to mention some important facts.
In the six years, 1982-1988, that Ted D. Kimbrough was superintendent of the Compton, Calif., school system, the reading and math scores remained a dismal 1 percentile. In the 18 months since he was replaced, the reading and math scores have dramatically improved to the 7th percentile.
While he was superintendent at Compton, the dropout rate was 78 1/2 percent, one of the highest in the nation. He is presently in litigation over sexual harassment charges filed by a female school principal.
I thought the taxpayers who are paying him $175,000 a year deserved to know the downside of our new superintendent also.
