The Katona Jozsef Theatre of Budapest, Hungary, will present the U.S. premieres of its recently acclaimed mountings of Anton Chekhov`s ”The Three Sisters” and Nikolai Gogol`s ”The Government Inspector” as part of the 1990 International Theatre Festival of Chicago in May and June.
Actual dates for the Blackstone Theatre productions will be announced later. Both plays will be presented in Hungarian with simultaneous translation via headsets available. The company, already hailed in its European appearances, fills one of two remaining slots on the festival`s roster.
Other visitors include the Renaissance Theatre Company of Great Britain, Theatre an der Ruhr of West Germany, Theatre Repere of Canada, the State Theatre of Lithuania, Cameri Theatre of Israel and a collaboration by the Theatre de la Marmaille of Canada and Teatro dell`angolo from Italy. – The Auditorium Theatre, 50 E. Congress Pkwy., celebrates its 100th birthday Saturday with an open house from 12 noon to 3 p.m.
The theater, currently undergoing stage renovations for the June arrival of ”The Phantom of the Opera,” will be opened for tours, and visitors will be treated to birthday cake, contributed by Sara Lee, and other light refreshments.
– A revival of Craig Lucas` 1983 drama ”Reckless,” directed by Terry Kinney, will be produced Feb. 18-April 22 at Steppenwolf Theatre, 2851 N. Halsted St.
Lucas` 12-character play begins when a husband tells his wife while in bed together at Christmas that he`s taken a contract out on her life.
The drama was performed in 1988 at Circle Repertory Theatre in New York and was produced in Chicago in 1988 by the Absolute Theatre Company.

– John Hutton, an actor with extensive regional theater credits, has been cast in the lead role of Leontes in Shakespeare`s ”The Winter`s Tale” Jan. 22-Feb. 17 at the Goodman Theatre, Columbus Drive and Monroe Street.
Hutton replaces the previously announced Daniel Davis, who has been cast in Sydney Pollack`s new movie ”Havana.”
Also, Bruce Norris (”The Mystery of Irma Vep”) has been added to ”The Winter`s Tale” cast as Florizel. Frank Galati directs. Jason Fritz, Aviva Crane, Taylor Miller, Darryl Warren, Michael McCarthy, and Mark Beltzman are replacements now in the cast. Original company members are April Harper, Sean Grennan, Lou Milione and Zaid Farid. Also, Ron Dean left the show for a time but has returned.
