It would be refreshing to read something about the recent events in Germany without the concomitant historical inaccuracies (”Fear and forgiveness,” Nov. 19).
Just for the record: 1) Germany did not ”swallow” Polish territory during World War I; rather, it lost parts of Pomerania to Poland and Alsace-Lorraine to France. South Tyrol was taken from Austria and annexed by Italy. 2) Prior to the invasion of Poland in 1939, Germany did not ”lust”
after Polish territory. Germany was not unified until 1871, before which it was a collection of independent principalities. The German state which controlled large parts of eastern Europe was the Austrian Empire, which did not acquire these territories as a result of invasion, but rather through royal intermarriage.
I hope The Tribune does its homework in the future.
