”For the second time this month, Doonesbury does not appear in the comic section. Reason: It was not a comic. Instead, it was an unrestrained violent editorial on the war in Vietnam . . . We (the editors) felt Trudeau went too far with political comment of an intemperate nature we don`t even use on the editorial page. We certainly don`t think the comic page is the place for it.” Comics are not just the mindless doodling of bored artists. They are a way for artists to express their opinions. Doonesbury is just as appropriate in the comic section as it was in 1971.
