Bernard Sanders (Jan. 6) believes that, with the alleged end of the Cold War, ”never has there been a better time to fundamentally rethink and redirect the priorities of our national government.” Actually, it is Sanders who should rethink his leftist ideology.
Sanders, with his talk of ”expensive condominiums for the wealthy” and
”tax breaks to the rich,” invites us to envy the successful. He then dangles before us the promise of government-provided ”housing, day care centers, nursing homes, mass transit,” etc. But what the turmoil in Eastern Europe teaches us is that this socialist vision is an illusion.
Infringing on individuals` property rights impoverishes the whole society. The creative power of a free market is our best hope for general prosperity.
