Here are two facts in response to Pete Zastrow`s letter of Jan. 18:
1) Panamanian President Endara`s administration is not ”a U.S.-selected government.” It was elected by the Panamanian people by a three-to-one margin in last spring`s election, which Gen. Noriega, in a rather undemocratic fashion, unilaterally nullified.
2) Polls show that over 90 percent of Panamanians support the U.S. invasion. This makes Mr. Zastrow`s statement that more Panamanians support Gen. Noriega than the new government rather curious.
There may, of course, be some good reasons to disagree with the invasion, but I suggest that Mr. Zastrow use facts to support his position. In my opinion, the only criticism is that the invasion did not occur sooner.
