A recent letter-writer was as wrong as the headline of a Tribune article, ”Police smash Arab-Jewish peace rally.” In fact, the peaceful demonstration proceeded without interference or interruption.
As reported in both the Jerusalem Post and the New York Times, violence was initiated by non-participating Arab youths who began hurling rocks at onlookers. It was that violence to which the local police responded. A vast majority of the peaceful demonstrators were totally unaware of the trouble initiated by the rioters and the police response.
Perhaps the high school letter-writer will learn to read beyond the Tribune headline.
