A record crowd attended the Chicago Auto Show at McCormick Place on Monday, drawn out by unseasonably warm weather on Lincoln`s Birthday, a state holiday, officials said.
The count totaled 67,231, setting a record for a Monday. Last year`s total for a Monday was 45,407.
”It must have been a combination of the weather and the fact that the schoolchildren were off today,” said Frank Mauthe, a show spokesman. ”It was a fine family day today.”
Unexpected throngs lined up for the show by 9:30 a.m., 1 1/2 hours before the doors opened. Extra ticket sellers had to be called in on their day off. The show runs through Sunday.
