Secretary of State James Baker will determine whether the vote in Nicaragua is ”free and fair.” While the national opposition is funded by an array of political groups from Washington to the tune of almost $12 million, it`s a little difficult to claim U.S. impartiality.
Baker wants to send a congressional task force created by Bush to judge the fairness of election results. Why would respresentatives of a government openly dedicated to the overthrow of the Sandinistas for a decade be impartial observers?
