Who was the RN who helped open up China?
A recent article in the New Yorker reports a young Lyndon Johnson said that presidents are known by their initials. I can only think of four initially-FDR, JFK, TR and LBJ.
At first glance, DDE might be mistaken for a once-popular insecticide, not the military man who became president. Jimmy Carter has a tough act to follow because JC scribbled on documents was first used in Bethlehem.
RR helped connect east to west. I automatically think ”railroad.”
I don`t like to refer to Thomas Jefferson, the man who drafted the Declaration of Independence, as ”TJ.” George Washington never chopped down his name. Why trim Bush? AL sounds like American League.
If I were told to name a person initialed CC who was silent in the `20s but prominent on the world stage, I`d say, ”Sounds like Charlie Chaplin to me.”
HH and the Great Depression? That could have been Harry Houdini. He might have been able to get us out.
