I was disturbed to read in ”College video cuts through the Ivy” and

”From Brown`s hippies to Yale`s preppies” that sound-bite advertising has infected college selection. Debunking ”preconceived notions” is an admirable goal, but Steve Barrett exhibits apalling hypocrisy by creating new stereotypes of his own.

Speaking from experience, I found his description of Yale especially misleading. Yalies do not ”mostly hail from private prep schools”; over 55 percent attended public high schools. Complaints of ”sexism” reflect heightened awareness of and action against residual discrimination that is ignored on other campuses, rather than an environment truly hostile toward women. Finally, I can`t believe that Barrett found Yalies ”unfriendly.” I have never been part of a more interesting, dynamic and friendly body of people in my life.

Perhaps busy students had better things to do than pander to Barrett`s slick video. Yale purged itself of affinity for cheap sound bites with the graduation of George Bush.
